Open-Source Licenses

The open-source software and fonts that Fondfully is built with, and the licenses they come under.

The short version

Fondfully is built with the help of open-source software and fonts, and we're grateful to the people who make them. This page lists them and their licenses. The full license texts are in each app under Settings › About › Open-source licenses.

1. Fonts

Fondfully's typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1.

  • Bricolage Grotesque. Copyright 2022 The Bricolage Grotesque Project Authors (github.com/ateliertriay/bricolage).
  • Figtree. Copyright 2022 The Figtree Project Authors (github.com/erikdkennedy/figtree).

In summary, the SIL Open Font License lets anyone use, study, modify and redistribute the fonts freely, including bundled with software, as long as:

  • the fonts aren't sold on their own;
  • copies include the copyright notice and the license;
  • modified versions are also released under the Open Font License, and don't use any Reserved Font Name without permission; and
  • the authors' names aren't used to promote a modified version without their permission.

The fonts come with no warranty. This summary isn't the license itself; the full text is at openfontlicense.org and in the apps.

2. The iPhone app

These components are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0:

  • GoogleSignIn-iOS by Google LLC, for Google Sign-In.
  • AppAuth-iOS by The AppAuth Authors, for secure sign-in flows.
  • GTMAppAuth by Google LLC, for sign-in authorization.
  • GTMSessionFetcher by Google LLC, for network requests during sign-in.

The iPhone app also uses Apple's frameworks, such as SwiftUI, CryptoKit, VisionKit and WidgetKit, under Apple's own terms; they aren't open source.

3. The Android app

These components are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0:

  • AndroidX libraries, including Jetpack Compose, by The Android Open Source Project.
  • The Kotlin standard library and kotlinx libraries, such as kotlinx.coroutines and kotlinx.serialization, by JetBrains s.r.o. and Kotlin contributors.
  • OkHttp and Okio by Square, Inc.

These components are provided by Google under Google's terms rather than an open-source license:

  • Google Play Billing Library, under the Android Software Development Kit License Agreement.
  • ML Kit (document scanning and text recognition) and Google Play services, under the Android Software Development Kit License Agreement and the Google APIs Terms of Service.

4. Our servers

Our servers and website are built with open-source software too, including Hono, Zod, jose and @noble/hashes, used under the MIT License. They run on our servers and aren't distributed to you, but we're glad to credit them.
