Budgets

Budgets are optional, gentle, and yours to ignore. Set one and Fondfully keeps the running total, so you don't have to.

Open your budgets

On Home, tap See budgets on the budget card. Pick the year at the top.

• The year card shows what you've spent so far against your amount for the year, what's left, and how many occasions are still to come. The bar is split by occasion color, so you can see where the money went.
• By occasion lists each occasion with its own bar. Tap one to change its amount.

With no budgets yet, you'll see "Set a budget for the year or for one occasion. Fondfully keeps the running total."

Three kinds of budget

• For the year: one amount for everything you give in a year. Set it from the year card.
• For an occasion: like $600 for Christmas. Set it under By occasion, from the budget card on the occasion plan, or with Budget for this year in the occasion editor.
• For one person at an occasion: like $80 for Sam at Christmas. On the occasion plan, tap the budget card to set the total and, if you like, an amount for each person on the list.

Fondfully shows the right budget where it helps. The capture sheet, for example, says "Budget for Linda's birthday: $82 left of $120" while you're tucking away an idea for Linda.

What counts

• Spent is every gift that's bought, arrived, wrapped or given.
• Planned is what you've spent plus gifts you've chosen but not bought yet.
• Ideas don't count until you choose them.
• Only gifts with a price count.
• Left is your amount minus what you've spent. Go over and Fondfully simply says "over by", with no scolding.

Which year a gift counts in

A gift counts toward the year of the occasion it's for, not the day you paid. A Christmas 2026 gift bought in November counts in 2026. A Lunar New Year 2027 gift bought in December 2026 counts in 2027.

A gift that isn't tied to an occasion counts in the year you bought it, or if there's no purchase date, the year you gave it.

Carry leftovers into next year

On the Budgets screen, turn on Carry leftovers into next year. It works per person, for the same occasion.

When it's on, and you haven't set that person's budget for the new year, Fondfully starts it with whatever was left of last year's. Say Linda's Christmas budget was $100 last year and you spent $70. Linda's Christmas budget this year starts at $30. If you went over last year, it starts at $0, never less.

Set an amount yourself at any time and Fondfully uses yours instead.

Your usual pace

Once you have two or more past years, the Budgets screen shows how you tend to land, like "At Christmas you usually land near $65 a person." It's a guide, not a rule.

Currencies

Budgets add up in your main currency, which you set in Settings, then Shopping, then Currency. A gift priced in a different currency is left out of the totals and marked, so you can see why it's missing. To include it, enter its price in your main currency.

Prefer not to budget?

Skip it. Nothing nags you, and every other part of Fondfully works the same without a budget.
