Ideas: tucking things away from any app

Ideas turn up at odd moments: a hint over dinner, a link from a friend, something in a shop window. Tuck them away the moment you hear them, and they'll be waiting when the day comes.

The Ideas tab

Ideas shows every idea and gift, grouped by person, with the person whose occasion is nearest at the top. Each row has the title, the occasion, the price and status dots.

Use the filter at the top to see All, Ideas, Chosen, Bought or Given. Tap + to tuck away a new idea.

Ways to tuck an idea away

• Ideas, then +.
• The Tuck away an idea… bar on Home. Its camera, link and mic buttons start in that mode.
• Tuck one away on someone's profile.
• Add idea on an occasion plan or the Up next card, with the person and occasion filled in.
• The share sheet in any other app (see below).
• The Tuck away an idea shortcut on your home screen (see Themes, widgets and settings).

The capture sheet

Pick a mode at the top:

• Link: paste a web address. Fondfully fetches a preview on your phone with the title, a picture, the price when the page lists one, and the site's name. Tap the title or price to fix them.
• Photo: take a picture or choose one from your library, then give it a title.
• Voice: record up to 60 seconds. The recording stays with the idea. Where your phone can turn speech into text on the device, Fondfully suggests a title from what you said.
• Just a note: type a title.

Then:

1. Under For, pick the person. People you picked recently come first; use the picker for everyone else.
2. Under Occasion, pick one of their next occasions, like "Birthday · Oct 12" or "Christmas", or Just because for an idea that isn't for anything in particular.
3. In Why this, leave a note for your future self, like "Mentioned sore knees on Sep 3."
4. Glance at the budget hint if there is one: "Budget for Linda's birthday: $82 left of $120."
5. Tap Tuck it away.

Tuck it away is ready as soon as there's a title and a person. You'll feel a little tap and see "Tucked away for Linda."

From any app

On iPhone:

1. In Safari, a shopping app or anywhere else, tap Share.
2. Tap Fondfully in the row of apps. Not there? Scroll to the end of the row, tap More, and add Fondfully.
3. The capture sheet opens with the link, picture or text filled in. Pick the person and tap Tuck it away.

On Android:

1. Tap Share in any app.
2. Choose Fondfully.
3. Fondfully opens the capture sheet with it filled in. Pick the person and tap Tuck it away.

You can share links, photos and text.

About link previews

Your phone fetches the preview straight from the website. It doesn't go through Fondfully's servers.

Some sites block previews or don't list a price. When that happens, type the title and price yourself. Prices change, so the price you see is what the page said when you tucked the idea away.

The repeat alert

Before you tuck an idea away, Fondfully checks whether it looks like something already on that person's list, like a gift you've given them or an idea you've already tucked away. If it does, you'll see:

"Looks like a repeat. You gave Linda “Glazed ceramic planter” for Christmas 2024. See it"

Here's exactly how it decides:

1. It only compares titles for the same person: everything already on their list, from ideas you've tucked away to gifts you've given.
2. It simplifies both titles. Capitals, accents and punctuation go. Little words go: a, an, the, and, or, for, of, with, to, in, on, by, set and kit. Numbers and units go, like 10, inch, cm, oz, ml, lb and pack. A final "s" comes off words longer than three letters, so "planters" matches "planter" (but "glass" stays "glass").
3. It's a repeat when at least half of all the different words across the two titles are shared, and at least one shared word has four or more letters.
4. It shows the closest match, with its occasion and year.

For example, "Glazed stoneware planter, 10 in." becomes glazed, stoneware, planter. "Glazed ceramic planter" becomes glazed, ceramic, planter. They share two of the four different words, which is half, so it's flagged.

The check runs on your phone. It's only a heads-up: tap See it to look at the earlier gift, or carry on. Sometimes a second planter is exactly right.
