Receipts, returns and warranties

Receipts turn "can I still return this?" into a date you can see. They're part of Plus. On the free plan, Vault, then Receipts shows what Plus adds.

Scan a receipt

1. Tap Vault, then Receipts, then Scan a receipt.
2. Hold your phone over the receipt. On iPhone, the document camera finds the edges and captures it. On Android, Google's document scanner does the same.
3. Fondfully reads the text on your phone and fills in the store, the total and the date.
4. Check the details: merchant, total, currency, purchased on, return by, warranty until, final sale, order number, the gifts it's for (pick one or more) and notes.
5. Tap Save receipt.

Receipts are read on your device and never uploaded to Fondfully. The picture and details live in your vault and back up to your own cloud, encrypted like everything else.

Reading receipts isn't perfect, especially faded or crumpled ones. Check the total and the date before you tap Save receipt.

Return windows

When Fondfully knows the store, it fills in Return by from that store's usual return window. We keep a list of common windows for many large stores, and some stores have a holiday rule: buy during their holiday season and you can return until a date in January. When that January date is later than the usual window, Fondfully uses it.

For example, a store might usually take returns for 30 days but give purchases made in November and December until January 31.

If Fondfully doesn't know the store, or the store decides returns case by case, Return by is left empty for you to fill in.

Store policies change, and some items, like electronics, often have shorter windows. Always check your receipt or the store's website, and change Return by whenever you need to.

Your receipts at a glance

Receipts are grouped under This season, with a count and total. Each receipt shows the store, the amount, who it's for, the gift and the purchase date, plus a return chip:

• "Return by Oct 18 · 26 days", which turns warm when 7 days or fewer are left.
• "Final sale", in grey.
• "Returned", in green.

The alert card

When a return window closes within 7 days, a card appears at the top of Receipts, like "One return window closes in 7 days", with the gift it's for. Receipts marked final sale or returned never trigger it.

Final sale and returns

• Turn on Final sale for anything that can't go back. It won't send return reminders.
• When you send something back, open the receipt and tap Mark returned. Its reminders stop and the chip changes to "Returned".

Reminders

Fondfully nudges you 7 days and 1 day before a return-by date, at your reminder time: "Return window closes in 7 days" with the gift and store underneath.

After the holidays there's one more: on January 3, if any open return windows close during January, you'll get "Holiday returns close this month. A few return windows close in January. Take a look?"

To change these, open Settings, then Notifications, and use Return windows. See Reminders and notifications.

Warranties

Add a Warranty until date to keep it with the receipt, so it's there when something stops working. Warranty dates are for reference and don't send reminders.

A receipt's page

Tap a receipt to open it. Tap the picture to see it full screen. Every field can be changed. From here you can also Mark returned or Delete the receipt.

Linking receipts and gifts

A receipt can cover several gifts, like one order with presents for three people. Pick them all under the gifts it's for. From a gift's page you can also link an existing receipt or scan a new one.

Keeping a copy

Tap Export everything on the Receipts screen to export your vault, receipts included. See Privacy, security and your data.
