Reminders and notifications

Fondfully would rather send one useful nudge than ten noisy ones. Here's what you'll hear about, and when.

What Fondfully reminds you about

• Occasions. By default, 4 weeks, 2 weeks and 3 days before. Each reminder tells you where things stand, like "Linda's birthday is in 14 days. You have 2 ideas tucked away." or "Christmas is in 14 days. Theo still needs an idea."
• Return windows (Plus). 7 days and 1 day before a receipt's return-by date.
• The January returns check. One nudge on January 3 when any open return windows close in January.
• Kids' interests. A check-in when a child has at least one current interest and it hasn't been checked for 90 days: "What is Maya into these days? A quick check keeps the ideas fresh."

When they arrive

Occasion and return reminders arrive at your reminder time, 9:00 in the morning unless you change it, in your phone's time zone. The January check and kids' check-ins arrive at 10:00.

A kids' check-in comes the morning after it's due, and never more than once a month for the same child. Tap Still true on their profile to reset the clock.

Change your defaults

Open Settings, then Notifications:

• Occasion reminders: turn them on or off, and choose how many days before you'd like to hear.
• Reminder time: when occasion and return reminders arrive.
• Return windows: return reminders and the January check.
• Kids' interests: the check-ins about what your children are into.

Change reminders for one occasion

Some occasions need more notice than others. To give one its own reminders:

1. Open the occasion's plan from Calendar or Home.
2. Tap …, then Reminders. (You can also set them in Edit occasion.)
3. Pick when to hear about it: 28, 14, 7, 3 or 1 days before.

That occasion now uses its own choice instead of your defaults. Christmas might get all five; a friend's birthday might only need one.

Allow notifications on your phone

Fondfully asks during setup, when you tap Turn on reminders. If you tapped Not now, or turned notifications off later:

• On iPhone: open the Settings app, tap Notifications, then Fondfully, and turn on Allow Notifications.
• On Android: open Settings, tap Apps, then Fondfully, then Notifications, and turn them on.

On Android, a reminder can arrive a few minutes after the set time. Android groups alarms together to save battery.

How reminders work

Reminders are scheduled on your phone, from your vault. No server sends them, so they work without a connection and nobody else knows your dates.

Fondfully lines up your reminders for roughly the next two months, soonest first. Opening the app now and then keeps that schedule fresh.

If you use Fondfully on more than one device with sync, each device shows the reminders. If you'd rather hear them in one place, turn off notifications for Fondfully in the other device's settings.

What doesn't send reminders

• Archived occasions.
• Occasions without a date for that year, like a holiday from our table before its year is added.
• Receipts marked final sale or returned.
• Warranty dates.
